A gothic retro-style shooter
Silver Bullet is an action and arcade-shooter game developed by 1CC Games for PC and consoles. It leans heavily into retro style, featuring pixel-art visuals similar to arcade games from the 1980s. The gameplay loop is pretty old-school as well, utilizing joystick controls to maneuver around and defeat your enemies.
Silver Bullet’s main protagonist is the iconic Van Helsing, who goes on a perilous quest to rescue his missing puppies who were dognapped by an evil vampire. It has multiple stages to complete, upgrades to unlock, leaderboards to compete in, and your own puppy to aid you in your adventure.
Gun down monsters in a dark, gothic world
In Silver Bullet, you take on the role of the infamous Van Helsing in his journey to rescue his pet puppies who were stolen by the evil Reggie the Vampire. You’ll go through several stages of chaos and pure mayhem, featuring stick-style shooter mechanics to defeat all enemies standing in your way. A pet puppy named Silver can also be summoned to help you beat those pesky minions.
Throughout the levels, gold coins and bonus items can be collected to purchase powerups and unlock extra weapons, like a shotgun or a rocket launcher. If you manage to earn enough coins, you also gain access to the extra puzzle game mode, Terror Blocks. The Arcade Mode and Terror Blocks both have online leaderboards, so you can compete for high scores and make a name for yourself worldwide.
The controls are fully customizable, and you can tailor them to your own liking. You can choose from four control options: twin stick aiming, classic single stick, arcade stick, or your trusty keyboard and mouse. There are also bonus challenges that you can do to add some complexity; one such example is defeating a boss without losing a single life.
A retro game that hooks you instantly
Overall, Silver Bullet is a fun arcade game that’ll keep you hooked for hours with its intuitive gameplay. However, due to the old-school arcade theme, it’s not really for everyone, especially younger audiences. It also lacks proper storytelling, as it’s focused more on the fast-paced action, and the plot is almost ignorable since players will just blast their way throughout the whole game.
