Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut is a science-fiction/fantasy role-playing game with turn-based tactical combat. In it, you explore a dystopian future Berlin in a world where both cyberpunk technology and magic are real. Originally released as a campaign for 2013's Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall is now also available as a standalone game -- and it's well worth your time.

Dragons don't really die

Like the tabletop RPG it's based on, Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut starts with a simple covert mission (or 'run') and spirals into a larger conspiracy. At the beginning of the game, you create your character, choosing from a wide range of skills, powers and character options. You can't undertake your missions alone, though -- you'll need to recruit a team of agents (known in the game as Shadowrunners) from the seamy underworld of Berlin's Kreuzbasar. These compelling, well-drawn characters add to the fun of the missions. You can also customise their abilities as the game progresses. Combat runs on an action point economy that will be familiar if you've played games like XCOM, efficient action point use and careful positioning will be the keys to victory.

Fighting on all fronts

Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut is a compelling story-driven RPG with an evocative setting to explore. It also poses rewarding gameplay challenges, although hacking (or 'Matrix') combat is less tense and challenging than physical combat.
