A private vault for sensitive images

SafePic by Norton Labs is a free security and privacy app for protecting sensitive photos on iPhone and iPad. Rather than replacing your main photo library, it provides a dedicated, encrypted space for images that contain personal details, financial records, or confidential documents.

To help manage those files, SafePic by Norton Labs automatically scans your device to identify potentially vulnerable files. You can then move them into a secure vault or capture new photos directly inside the app. Additional privacy controls round out the tool, making it a user-friendly option to keep sensitive media separated from your everyday camera roll.

Finding and securing sensitive photos

SafePic begins with the photos you already have. Its on-device scanner uses machine learning and optical character recognition to flag images containing sensitive details like personal records or private text. You then review these results to choose what to protect or delete. Since all scanning occurs locally on your iPhone or iPad, your photos are never sent to external servers.

After selecting your sensitive photos, the app moves them into an encrypted vault stored on your device, keeping them separate from your standard library. Alternatively, you can capture new photos directly using the app’s built-in camera to save them straight to the vault. This avoids having sensitive documents, such as passports, forms, or receipts, ever appear in your main photo library.

Beyond storing sensitive photos in the vault, the app includes extra tools to prevent accidental exposure while browsing. A blur feature hides selected photos in your main library until you press and hold to view them, while an optional NSFW scanner flags explicit content. Working alongside the vault, these controls keep private images hidden from anyone glancing at your screen.

System compatibility and file restrictions

SafePic by Norton Labs requires iOS 13 or iPadOS 13 or later. While this low system bar lets the app run on older Apple hardware, the software itself hasn't been updated since Version 2.2.3 came out in December 2021. Relying on an app built for older frameworks means it might struggle to integrate smoothly with modern iOS features and permissions. Because of that long update gap, it's a good idea to test how well the app actually functions on newer devices before relying on it for your files.

The app also comes with a big functional restriction: it only works with static photos. It can't process or store video clips, live photos, or animated files in its encrypted vault. If the sensitive material you need to lock down includes video recordings, you'll have to use another privacy tool. With no video support and no updates since 2021, the app may not meet the needs of users with newer iOS devices.

A dedicated space with a few limitations

Overall, SafePic by Norton Labs covers the basics of private photo storage with local scanning, an encrypted vault, direct camera capture, and image blurring. Its focus on static photos keeps its scope fairly narrow, while the lack of updates since 2021 might raise some compatibility concerns. Still, users who mainly need to protect photos can find its core privacy features practical for keeping sensitive images separate from their main library.
