Road Rash
A Thrilling Trip Down Memory Lane
Fast and furious violent racing
Road Redemption is an arcade style racing game with a violent twist. Players battle it out for first places with various weapons in a spiritual successor to the famous Mega Drive cult classic.
First time players of Road Redemption could be forgiven for thinking they were playing a HD remake of the 90s Sega hit Road Rash. In that game, 16 bit motorcycle races were won with fists and chains in a refreshingly violent take on the genre which usually featured mushrooms for power ups. Road Redemption, while not officially linked to Road Rash, is a gloriously unabashed love letter to the simple fun of bashing other players off the road and does a fine job. While this means that realism is thrown to the wayside in favour of arcade style racing, the game is pure adrenaline. Single player races earn upgrades for additional weapons and vehicles while co-op and multiplayer bring mayhem between friends. Despite these positives, the currently lacks an overall level of content. More free updates are promised, but as the game stands, it is primarily for those with fond memories of the original violent motorcycle racing title.
Road Redemption is simple fast fun. Fans of more serious racing titles will be put off by the rubber-banding and silliness, but this is missing the point of smashing a friend off the road with a lead pipe.
