Boomer shooter horror game in space
RetroSpace is a premium action PC game by developer The Wild Gentleman. It's a first-person sci-fi shooter that takes place at the edge of space inside a space station trapped inside a black hole. Players will need to find a way to survive and defeat the mutant monstrosities that roam.
Joining the likes of Robobeat and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, RetroSpace is a boomer shooter inspired by retro themes with bizarre humor and features fast-paced, non-stop action mayhem. Players will navigate each section of the ship to fix what's wrong and try to get back home.
A messy situation
In RetroSpace, a space station, called the Aurora 5, has mysteriously been swallowed by a sentient black hole. You play as a janitor and last survivor aboard the ship, and it's now up to you to restore control of the ship and find a way back home to Earth. However, mutated animals and plants infested its halls and corridors, making your task a whole lot harder.
The Aurora 5 is a large interconnected space station with multiple sectors to explore. Discover secret areas of hidden pathways and shortcuts to get around faster. Choose to be aggressive and recklessly attack, or be more subtle and stealthily evade detection. All that while solving various puzzles and challenges along the way, as well as the effects of a time loop that jumps between two time periods.
You also have access to Mutamods, which grant you all kinds of enhanced abilities to make facing challenges easier. They do come with certain unpredictable risks and side effects that you have to deal with. If all this piques your interest, you're going to have to wait for a while longer since RetroSpace is not available yet, with no specific release date.
Mutant space horror
RetroSpace joins the growing list of boomer shooter titles and manages to stand out with its time-looping premise and intriguing story. The Mutamods is an interesting mechanic that will provide all kinds of ways to approach the gameplay. Hopefully, the game will come out sooner rather than later. All the same, this one is worth keeping on your radar and checking out when it releases.
