A classic survival horror game remade

Resident Evil 3 is a reimagining of the 1999 classic Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, developed and published by Capcom using the RE Engine. Set during the Raccoon City outbreak, the game follows Jill Valentine’s desperate escape from the city while being relentlessly hunted by the fearsome bio-weapon, Nemesis.

Resident Evil 3 forces you to be cautious of your choices, as each decision could make or break your survival. This game also allows you to experience the action by choosing the terrifying single-player campaign that continues the story of the Resident Evil games or the thrilling one-versus-four online multiplayer

Intensified action with thrilling moments

Resident Evil 3 is a more action-oriented experience than its predecessor, Resident Evil 2 Remake. Jill controls smoothly, dodging enemy grabs with a well-timed evasive move that adds a slight arcade flair. The game focuses more on linear progression than exploration, offering fewer puzzles and backtracking compared to earlier entries. Ammo and resources are balanced to encourage combat rather than avoidance, giving players the tools to stand their ground.

You would think that, as the third installment of the Resident Evil series, the story begins after the events of its predecessor. For this survival-horror game, however, the storyline is set twenty-four hours before the events of Resident Evil 2. This time, Nemesis serves as a recurring threat, though his presence is mostly scripted and less dynamic than Mr. X in RE2. Moreover, it offers a lot of easter eggs to discover, enriching the experience.

Visuals updates with revamped campaign

Built on the same RE Engine that powered RE2 Remake, Resident Evil 3 looks fantastic. Character models are highly detailed, and environments. The lighting and effects capture the horror ambiance of a city falling into chaos. Sound design plays a vital role, with impactful weapon audio, unsettling creature noises, and eerie ambient music that enhances tension. Voice acting is solid throughout, with Jill's performance especially standing out.

The main campaign can be completed in about 5–6 hours, which is notably shorter than other entries in the franchise. A separate multiplayer mode, Resident Evil Resistance, was bundled at launch, offering asymmetric 4v1 gameplay, though it failed to gain long-term traction. Unlockable content, collectibles, and higher difficulty modes do offer some replay value, but many players may find the single-player content limited for a full release.

A brutal escape reimagined

Resident Evil 3 is a gripping, action-heavy remake that trades deep exploration for cinematic intensity. Its impressive visuals and smooth mechanics enhance the tense atmosphere, making Jill Valentine’s journey through Raccoon City a thrilling ride. While the campaign is short and Nemesis lacks unpredictability, the game still delivers a polished experience that horror fans will appreciate, especially when paired with its eerie sound design and detailed environments.
