Uncover the truth of a mysterious plague

PLAGUN – The Plague Goes On is an action game developed by Talkinguns for PC and mobile. It’s a fast-paced bullet-hell mayhem, featuring auto-shooting and platforming mechanics. Old-school fans of classic arcade shooting games are going to be familiar with this type of gameplay formula, paired with its retro-style pixel graphics.

Set in a post-apocalyptic kingdom, PLAGUN – The Plague Goes On puts you in the shoes of a masked survivor, who uses plague-infused weapons, as well as cursed masks that grant special powers, to fight against waves of infected creatures and uncover the truth of the plague that devastated the world.

Fight using plague-infused armaments

PLAGUN – The Plague Goes On’s concept revolves around shooting hordes of mutated monsters while traversing through the levels in a platformer-like gameplay, similar to arcade games of the 1980s. Each run is around 15-20 minutes long, and during these runs, you can gather corpses to strengthen your character. They unlock new gear and abilities — both of which are permanent upgrades.

The masked doctor — whom you play as — can also collect Skull Masks. These masks are equipped with passive abilities that alter the stats of the masked doctor, changing up the gameplay and empowering you with new skills. The doctor is also infected, thus granting you with grotesque weapons called “Plaguns” that fire plague-infused projectiles. In addition, there are different types of these weapons — revolvers, melee hybrids, and experimental tools.

The game sports a grim and haunting aesthetic that perfectly fits the plague-themed atmosphere, and the gameplay has an addictive charm to it; yet it has a steep learning curve due to the fast, wave-based gameplay combined with the variety of build options. It also feels repetitive, as you’re mostly just blasting through the levels, and the plot is ignorable due to all the action that’s happening on the screen.

A beautifully sickening shooter

Overall, PLAGUN – The Plague Goes On is a strong contender in the action-shooter genre, with its charming retro graphics, challenging levels, and a satisfying progression system. It’s enough to keep you glued to your screen for hours, but after playing for some time, you’re going to realize how repetitive it is despite the different builds that it has to alter the gameplay experience.
