Eternal Legend: A Tactical RPG Experience
Tactical chaos with a hand-drawn grin
Pit People, from The Behemoth, is a turn-based tactical RPG set in an apocalyptic world shaped by the destructive whims of a colossal Space Bear. Battles take place on hexagonal maps, where players position units before fighters attack nearby valid targets automatically. Exploration, recruitment, equipment, and more than 1,500 unlockable items support long-term squad building. Local and online co-op, competitive arenas, and Will Stamper’s narration give the game a social and distinctly absurd identity.
Combat prioritizes positioning over direct attack commands. Players move each fighter into place, confirm the turn, and watch units respond according to their range, equipment, and nearby enemies. This creates spatial puzzles built around surrounding targets, protecting vulnerable allies, and combining complementary fighter types. The system keeps turns moving at a steady pace, although automatic targeting limits control over which opponent receives each attack.
The story campaign supports two-player local and online cooperative play, letting partners divide control of the squad and plan movements together. Competitive modes support up to four players, while Daily Tournaments include separate challenges for shorter sessions. These formats give recruited fighters and collected equipment uses beyond the campaign. Co-op complements the positioning-based combat especially well because every movement decision can become a shared tactical discussion.
The Behemoth’s recognizable hand-drawn art style gives the world thick outlines, exaggerated expressions, and a constant stream of visual oddities. Sentient cupcakes, strange monsters, animated cinematics, and the Space Bear reinforce the game’s surreal tone, while Will Stamper’s hostile narration drives much of its comedy. The presentation is memorable, although the loud humor and busy battlefields can become tiring for players who prefer restrained storytelling or cleaner visual design.
The Recruitador lets players capture eligible enemies and add new fighter types to their roster. Different species bring distinct abilities, movement rules, equipment options, and battlefield roles, encouraging inventive squad combinations. An optional Permadeath Mode adds lasting consequences, while Insane Mode and arena activities support further replay value. However, sorting equipment and managing a large collection can become repetitive, especially when later encounters begin to reuse familiar combat patterns.
Pit People suits players who enjoy character collection, cooperative strategy, and comedy that rarely sits still. Its automatic attacks make the combat easier to approach than systems built around detailed command menus, but they also reduce precise tactical control. The diverse roster, strong co-op support, and unusual presentation give the campaign a clear identity. Repeated encounters and roster management introduce some drag, yet the game remains a distinctive tactical adventure rather than a conventional strategy exercise.
