Pinewood Valleys Prologue is a free-to-download open-world horror demo title by Cold Chop Studio. Set 20 years into the past, the game’s plot centers on Eli and his friends having a frightening encounter with a bloodthirsty killer at Camp Summers Hill in 1986. 

Explore your surroundings

As Pinewood Valleys Prologue is an open-world title, the player—who assumes the role of Eli—gets to explore Camp Summers Hill in the dead of night, making the experience spookier and more ominous. There are cabins within the camp, of course, but you can’t enter some of them. 

Later on, things will take a dark turn—and you will see the fate of Eli’s friends in your own eyes. Although you can enable subtitles, the tiny font size makes the on-screen text almost unreadable. Depending on the player, they can complete the demo within half an hour.

Short yet terrifying

While it’s only a demo—albeit a short one—Pinewood Valleys Prologue shows promise in the horror genre. Since it boasts a spooky, open world, players have the freedom to roam around Camp Summers Hills at night. The size of the subtitles, though, is almost unreadable.
