Challenging RPG with survival mechanics
Outward 2 is a role-playing game developed by Nine Dots Studio and a sequel to 2019’s Outward. Here, you embark into a vast fantasy land, filled with perilous creatures that roam the wild and harsh landscape. The game mixes in some survival elements that encourage a more grounded, realistic experience.
Countless challenges and rewards await in Outward 2, as you go on an unforgettable journey that puts your survival skills to the test. The game doesn’t hand-hold you, and you are forced to overcome obstacles through hardship. You have all the tools you need; the rest is up to you.
Face the dangers of a ruthless fantasy world
Outward 2 puts you in a harsh fantasy world, where hostile creatures roam about in the wild. Other than these menacing foes that you need to be aware of, you also have to take care of your character’s needs. With survival elements mixed in the play, you need to monitor hunger, thirst, and exhaustion. Additionally, your bag has limited weight, so you have to choose which provisions to pack wisely.
Combat in this game is snappy and responsive. You can execute combo maneuvers and easily transition between dodging, rolling, blocking, and then activating skills. You can even stagger enemies for an opening and then unleash a deadly strike on them. If ever you fall in combat, there’s a chance you can be saved by a passing traveler, or if you’re unlucky, wake up with your stuff stolen.
Friends can join you in your grand adventure either through online co-op or split-screen play. Do note, however, that there is no matchmaking system and you can’t play with random people online. While the game has a lot of neat features, it’s still in its playtest stage and in early development, meaning some content and mechanics are still subject to change.
A role-playing game with huge potential
All in all, Outward 2 mixes RPG and survival mechanics in an engaging way. It rewards playing carefully, while also punishing players hard for making small mistakes. While it’s still a work in progress, the game’s dynamic world, combat system, and challenges already show a lot of promise. It’s definitely a title worthy of a try and keeping a close eye as development continues.
