Save the retired bodyguard’s future wife in this Japanese-inspired RPG
Odessa, created by the indie developer Aldorlea Games for PC, is a role-playing game that lets users embody the character of a retired bodyguard on a mission, together with his familiars, to save his abducted soon-to-be wife from a group of mysterious individuals.
Heavily inspired by Japanese RPGs, Odessa delivers a thrilling party-based title illustrated in classic 2D anime-style graphics, providing the perfect experience for players into nostalgic and old-school gameplay. It is playable from the top-down perspective and explores various themes, including conspiracy, crime, drama, and romance.
Odessa focuses on the story of a retired bodyguard who teams up with a quick-witted bunny girl, a homeless dog, and a tight-lipped beggar to embark on a purposeful journey of retrieving his soon-to-be bride after being kidnapped by unknown individuals. Coincidentally, a cult that centers around the Goddess of Ashes is emerging, seemingly tied to the future wife’s abduction.
Explore mystery dungeons in this dystopian expanse with the nine playable characters as you confront more than 45 enemies, collect 13 relics, and find seven animals across eight distinct environments. This captivating adventure, filled with twists and turns, features atmospheric effects for an immersive experience, intuitive mouse controls for an easy gameplay session, and an auto-save function to avoid progress loss.
Moreover, this game has three difficulty modes and features a New Game + mode, allowing you to start a new playthrough with your previously earned items, abilities, and progress. For even greater challenges, New Game ++ offers a more challenging experience, with an estimated 12 hours of overall playtime. However, players fond of cutting-edge graphics and state-of-the-art design might find this game's overall aesthetic outdated.
Odessa offers a rich, story-driven experience for fans of classic RPGs, blending nostalgic 2D anime-style graphics with engaging, turn-based combat and a compelling narrative. Its mix of mystery, conspiracy, and romance, along with a unique party of characters, provides plenty of depth. With multiple difficulty levels, New Game +, and New Game ++, it offers replayability and challenge, though players seeking modern visuals might find its aesthetic dated.
