Octopi Game is free-to-play multiplayer based on the Netflix phenomenon, Squid Game. Developed by Poly Adventure - ReckDev, this action game is one of the most realistic adaptations of the show's games but still retains its own set of features exaggerated for aesthetic or gameplay purposes.

It joins the ranks of games inspired by the South Korean series, such as the voxel-based Roblox mod Squid Game or the visually cartoonish Crab Game. Although it comes off as unoriginal because of the games with the same premise and setting, Octopi Game tries to establish itself with its multiplayer platform and its graphics.

Play with participants worldwide

One distinct feature that sets Octopi Game apart from other similar games is its online platform. Of course, you’ll have to register first with Poly Adventure for an account, which happens almost in real-time so you won’t wait long. This lets you play with players from around the world. Be warned, though, since the game doesn’t have a huge player base, human players are few and far in between.

Also, the game is limited at this stage so it only allows you and your friends to play Red Light, Green Light. This first game challenges players to run while the light is green, and stop when it turns red. Everyone caught moving will be shot, which the game makes slightly funny thanks to its ragdoll physics. See other failing players get literally blown out of the game.

Another visual treat is that as you move, you actually freeze at your current position–whether you’re halfway through a step or crouching to avoid detection. This is unlike other Squid Game copies where the model returns to an upright standing position when not moving. A small visual feature, yet it adds realism to this game and helps make it more enjoyable despite having only one game available.

A taste of more games

The creators of Octopi Game have shared having other Squid Game-related activities in development. The graphics and the commitment to small details shown in their recreation of the Red Light, Green Light is enough to lure in players and fans of the series. This game also offers a good online multiplayer experience, although through no fault of its own, it suffers matchmaking limitations due to its still-small player base. Highly recommended.
