Norland is a premium simulation game from developer Long Jaunt. It is a city-building simulator that is set during medieval times wherein a great kingdom has fallen and left a power vacuum for anyone to seize. Players will lead their people from humble beginnings to become rulers of the land.

Similar to the developer's other releases, such as Against the Storm and Manor Lords, there is a large open map to explore and conquer in Norland. Players can experience its immersive and engaging gameplay while tending to people's needs and engaging in nefarious plots against enemies. 

Seat of power

Norland takes place in a medieval fantasy world wherein The Empire has ruled for hundreds of years, helping the land grow and flourish. However, after its collapse, it created a void and had its successor kingdoms fighting for control over everything. During these troubled times, you will lead your small kingdom as you navigate wars and political agendas to ensure the survival of your people.

Resources are crucial to your survival, but most are region-specific, challenging you to form good relations with your neighbors for favors and rations. Manage your peasants through your lords and prioritize which activities to perform first. Hand out appropriate wages to keep them motivated and allow them a modest yet comfortable life. Also, be wary of civil unrest that could turn into all-out dissent.

There are also other factions to be wary of in Norland. One of them is the Unholy Horde which is slowly growing in power as it pillages and burns villages. Another is the Church of Saint Sophia which uses religion to keep a tight hold on valuable resources. However, the game still lacks the advanced features to fully maximize and enjoy the game. 

Intriguing and promising

All in all, Norland by Long Jaunt is shaping up to be an intriguing city-builder sim with a curious narrative and deep gameplay systems revolving around resource management and interpersonal relations among kingdoms. However, its lack of advanced features can deter players from seeking a more complex gameplay. Still, if you're a fan of the genre, keep this on your radar.
