Newspaper management sim for PC

News Tower is a premium simulation game developed by Sparrow Night. This management simulator lets players experience running a publication company. They will start from scratch and strive to become the city's biggest and most trusted news and media tycoon.

Much like Planet Zoo or Game Dev Tycoon, News Tower is all about becoming a successful entrepreneur. Players will be able to experience what it's like to build an empire from the ground up in this demo version, and go through all the motions of news publishing, including hiring skilled employees, and always getting the first scoop.

Local news

News Tower is a management sim taking place in the backdrop of 1930s New York, wherein you own and run a small local newspaper covering developing stories in and around Brooklyn. Your ultimate goal is to expand beyond your small neighborhood and establish a large network spanning the entire city. You'll start small but have big dreams of one day becoming a newspaper mogul.

The most crucial step in fulfilling your dreams is to master the art of printing the news. Control each step of the process, from collecting all the facts and turning them into a compelling article to selecting the right typeface and photography to add impact to the story. Hire the right employee for the task and optimize your office and workstations for seamless workflow and efficiency.

One interesting element in the gameplay is the presence of third-party entities and factions like politicians and the mafia, who have no qualms with bribing or pressuring you to print news supporting their agenda. However, some players feel the game tries to juggle too many tasks unrelated to running a newspaper, making the focus feel scattered. Others find the interface cluttered and unintuitive, suggesting it could benefit from more refinement.

Highlights and additions in the 1.0 release

News Tower just gets bigger and more exciting with the arrival of the 1.0 release. A highlight of this update is the new Competitor System, introducing rivals that make it more challenging to rise to the top in town. Another major addition is the Perception System, which emphasizes defining your editorial voice and aligning it with what readers expect and want, adding a layer of strategy to your newsroom decisions.

Furthermore, the Faction System has been upgraded, featuring four key factions: the Mafia, the Military, the Mayor, and High Society. Each faction offers unique quests, agendas, and perks, and your choices now directly affect gameplay. Competition has also been enhanced with leaderboards, allowing players to compare their performance against other tycoons. Two new towers — a high-rise and a low-rise — can also be unlocked as you progress, expanding your management experience.

A compelling experience

All in all, if you like management simulator games, News Tower offers a compelling experience with its distinct setting and engaging gameplay. You get to build your news empire however you want, be it the legitimate way or engage in back alley deals on the side — the choice is yours. Despite a few drawbacks, the mix of creativity, challenge, and narrative intrigue makes it a highly engaging simulator.
