A game where you design and automate systems

MoteMancer is a fantasy, strategy, and automation game developed by CyanAvatar Studios that takes a refreshing approach to the popular Factorio-type genre. Instead of building regular factories with traditional resources like iron and copper, the game challenges players to design and automate alchemical systems across six procedurally generated elemental planes

MoteMancer’s core experience centers on experimenting with ingredients and magic on a hexagonal grid, weaving together elegant solutions to cultivate a garden of possibility, one discovery at a time. It’s a title that delivers a visually stunning and intellectually engaging experience, blending strategy with a touch of RPG and fantasy elements.

Don’t just build, build well

MoteMancer stands out with its hex-based grid and unique elemental mechanics, offering a fresh take on automation games. Instead of a linear tech tree, players use ingredient-based alchemy to research and discover new structures. Players grow magical ingredients like Mana Roots and Mana Leaves to collect power and transport them using Streamways. Each of the six elements — Life, Fire, Water, etc. — offers unique mechanics, requiring players to adapt strategies for each plane.

The easy tutorial teaches players how to navigate the game's unique systems before gradually letting go and presenting more open-ended, multi-hour objectives. This allows new players to adjust without feeling overwhelmed, while still providing a clear sense of direction. A significant long-term challenge is Entropy, a creeping enemy that constantly threatens to tear apart the fabric of reality, forcing players to build resilient and efficient systems that can withstand decay.

The game, however, does have a few rough edges. The hexagonal grid is a downside for players used to square-based games, and some find the belt placement to be finicky. The spellcasting system is also clunky, with a multi-step process for a simple cast. Its music is repetitive as well. Lastly, the lack of a blueprinting feature is a notable omission that players hope will be added in the future.

A solid choice for magical builders

Overall, MoteMancer is a strong entry that provides a fantasy-themed escape from the usual industrial setting. It successfully creates a unique and engaging experience with its creative resource management, hex-based design, and magical systems. Despite some minor flaws related to UI and sound, the game's solid foundation and high replayability make it a promising title for anyone looking to try something different in the world of simulation games.
