Build a factory the way you imagine it
Modulus: Factory Automation is a simulation game developed by Happy Volcano and published by Kwalee. It’s a sandbox factory-building title where you build and design production lines. However, it comes with a twist—you have to design the components themselves using building blocks, rather than selecting from a pre-set collection of machines.
Modulus: Factory Automation brings out the creative side of you. You are given modular engineering tools to use at your disposal. You’ll have to cut, paint, stamp, and assemble 3D blocks called modules in order to come up with production systems and machinery. It’s quite similar to assembling LEGO blocks.
Set up production lines however you want
In Modulus: Factory Automation, you have to cut, shape, and assemble modular pieces together to construct components needed to engineer production lines. You don’t just choose and connect pre-built machines together. Every step is a design challenge, requiring you to conceptualize starting from how the blocks are shaped before moving forward. It’s overwhelming at first—you’ll definitely need dozens of hours of gameplay to familiarize yourself with the game’s concept.
To add to its difficulty, resource management plays an important role. Initially, you start with basic resources while learning the core systems. As your production grows, you unlock new mechanics and tools that are more advanced and complex to operate. This progression not only tests your strategic skills but also deepens your understanding of modular design. In a way, the game scales its difficulty to your skill level as you progress.
Despite being complicated, the game still offers a relaxing experience in factory automation. There are no timers to pressure you, just your creativity and your determination to experiment and optimize. You can build at your own pace and watch your automated systems thrive on their own. There’s even a Creative Mode, where you have unlimited resources and no objectives, just pure creative fun.
A true sandbox experience
Overall, Modulus: Factory Automation shines in player freedom—a pure creative sandbox experience where tools are provided and the rest is entirely in your hands. There are no right or wrong ways to design components; your solutions are your own, and how you approach problems is entirely up to your discretion. It’s a game for those eager to explore the limits of their creativity and see how far it can take them.
