The file management app is freely available for Windows 8 or above tablets and PCs which have a Wi-Fi connection available. Mobile SmartHub File Manager is specifically designed for users of Samsung Optical SmartHub (SE-208BW) and is not suited to devices without this kit. Rated for ages 12 and up, it is designed to offer increased storage capacity and only requires 5.31 MB of space to download itself.

Mobile SmartHub File Manager – An overview

Since some PCs and particularly tablets running with Samsung Optical SmartHub (SE-208BW) offer a limited storage capacity, it can be tricky to store lots of documents, photos and videos on your device if there is no more free space to use, or space is running out. You are often left with the decision of what to delete to provide some new space and this can be frustrating especially when you need to free this space up immediately. Thankfully, Mobile SmartHub File Manager provides a back up solution that can deal with the problem. It does this in two ways. Firstly, the app is able to wirelessly backup data – for example pictures, videos or contact lists - to any ODD media or USB storage device you may also have. Secondly, it is able to increase your smartphone or tablet’s storage capacity if a USB storage you also own is plugged into the Optical SmartHub device. As such, users can expand their available memory by utilising Optical SmartHub as network storage system.

Interfacing with the app

This smart back up app, when opened, allows you to go into your device in a file explorer type of environment as well as selecting a connected third party device that you might want to back up files to, thereby freeing up room in your device's memory. You just tap on the icon you want, for example File Manager, Smart Backup or Photo Backup and the rest is fairly intuitive. The file manager part of the app offers a basic level of functionality. In it you can browse easily enough as well as copying and pasting, renaming and deleting, as preeferred. It is worth bearing in mind from the outset that if users try to make use of the app without Optical SmartHub product being connected, then they are likely to experience that most of the functions do not work. PC users should connect an Optical SmartHub device to their computer wirelessly using iSCSI. However, confusingly you need to disconnect iSCSI when you then go onto to use the Mobile SmartHub File Manager app. The app supports two languages only – Korean and English.

Published by the Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Korea Corporation, this app is only likely to appeal to a few users who already have a Samsung Optical SmartHub. Although it is a handy way of connecting such a device to act as a conduit to another back up device or to increase the available memory, few PC users will find it provides anything that other storage solutions don't already.
