American Theft 80s
An open-world stealth game about robbing in the 80s
Survive and escape this deadly maze
Labyrinthine is an action-adventure video game wherein you must survive a maze full of horrors with your friends. Developed by Valko Game Studios, this 3D survival horror game features online multiplayer co-op gameplay that has you and your teammates trying to solve puzzles in order to escape.
Similar to Haunt Chaser, Labyrinthine mainly offers a story-rich campaign and procedurally-generated maps that scale in difficulty the deeper you go in. This allows the players to replay it for thrill completing runs faster or simply for collecting more cosmetic items for their characters. However, the monsters here can feel too unbalanced at times.
In Labyrinthine, you play as an employee of an amusement park closed down for the night. You’re supposed to do maintenance work inside a maze but suddenly, strange shadows and noises echo in the distance and you soon come face to face with dangerous monsters roaming the grounds. You must follow the clues left by another employee in order to solve the various puzzles around and survive the deadly maze.
This horror game is designed to be played in an online co-op mode with friends. You can have up to four players together in order to find clues and solve puzzles much faster. However, even with a buddy, the game doesn’t get any easier as you also have to either run or hide from the various monsters that all have their own AI systems and mechanics.
The dark misty atmosphere and creepy vibe of the hedge maze make for a tension-filled adventure, even with friends. It doesn’t help that sticking together isn’t always the safest option when you’re being hunted. Plus, the leveling system with the procedurally-generated maps ensures that the difficulty will always scale as you progress. However, the levels and chapters can feel unfairly unbalanced sometimes—with some being easy and others being far too hard.
All in all, Labyrinthine is a pretty interesting horror game if you like playing with your friends. While it can be hard to beat at times, the sheer replayability and scope of the game with its procedural generation make it a title worth coming back to every now and then. If you’re curious about other games like it, you can check out Devour, Pacify, Ghost Hunters Corp, and Phasmophobia.
