An early command and build game from 2001

There were quite a few kingdom-building games in the late 90s and early 00s. Most people remember games such as Age Of Empires, but games such as Knights And Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion had their place in the zeitgeist. Construct different buildings to grow your troops, and attack your neighbors to take their lands. The graphics for this game are very dated these days, and are similar to the earliest AOE games and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds 2 that was also released in 2001. One of the biggest selling points for Knights And Merchants: The Peasants Rebellion is that there is no population cap, which means you may create as many troops as you like so long as you have the food to feed them. Unlike other games in that era, you were able to overwhelm your enemy as a reward for your diligent base building, rather than overwhelm them based on how much money you have in the game.

It is not perfect, but is a nice trip down memory lane

As mentioned earlier, there were many of these types of games in the late 90s and early 00s on the PC. This game doesn’t offer anything that you haven’t seen before, but it does reward base building rather than credit/money/resource hoarding, which makes for a pleasant trip down memory lane. If you can pick up a cheap version of this game, then it is worth a few hours of your time.
