Iron Core: Mech Survival is a premium action game for PC by developer Soda Game Studio. It’s a bullet hell Survivors-like roguelike with a sci-fi theme, in which players will take control of mechs and defend against waves of enemies in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a nuclear catastrophe. 

Compared to games like NIMRODS or Demon Hunt, though, Iron Core: Mech Survival manages to stand out by giving players the option to change perspectives, so they can choose between a more immersive experience or a drawn-out, tactical view of the battle. It also incorporates tower defense mechanics into the gameplay. 

Nuclear apocalypse 

Iron Core: Mech Survival takes place in a post-apocalyptic world 100 years after a nuclear catastrophe took place. AI-managed reactor safe zones were established to provide shelter for survivors and help restart civilization. Guardian AI mechs have been deployed to gather resources and to defend against mutant creatures wandering inside the perimeter of these secure locations, and you will be piloting one of them. 

The core gameplay in Iron Core revolves around two core aspects, with the first being zone defense against waves of enemies, with three mechs to choose from, and tower units for additional support. Safe zones shrink over time, so you’ll need to gather reactor fuel to maintain their hold. Equip ranged and melee weapons, and build a skill set, including shields, drone companions, and more. 

Your other duty is taking on various missions, such as rescuing survivors, destroying mutant nests, and aiding in the development of more advanced weapons to protect what’s left of humanity. There are some game balance issues that still need to be ironed out, particularly with regard to specific weapons and abilities, but they do not negatively impact the experience too much.
