Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores is an adventure experience from Sony Interactive Entertainment, serving as the expansion pack to the 2022 role playing game, Horizon Forbidden West. The Burning Shores, already mentioned in the base game, is now fully available for you to explore in this downloadable content (DLC) pack. After Far Zenith, you explore a new map with an all-new mission.

As a major expansion, Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores adds hours of new gameplay to the already expansive RPG. However, note that it requires completing the main quest before starting.

Visit a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles

In Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores, Aloy goes to the titular place in the south, once the Los Angeles site. She follows Zenith member Walter Londra. Her expedition to the Burning Shores introduces her to a new cast of characters, from Seyka of the Quen tribe to Londra’s personal AI, Nova. This large exploration of the story in such a condensed nature ensures quality and fast-paced sequences, keeping the game immersive.

This DLC lives up to expectations. The massive open-world map contains numerous references to Los Angeles, such as the massive Hollywood Sign that hosts a key item in the game. More importantly, it adds 12 new skills plus six new Valor Surges. However, these are all located at the bottom of the various Skill Trees, requiring you to unlock their prerequisites first.

Similarly, while it is a paid DLC, it is not immediately accessible. You’ll need to complete the main mission of the base game, up to the Singularity mission, before starting this game. The player will receive a call signaling the start of her new quest. Aside from this, the only roadblock in this game is that there’s a difficulty spike that could take some players by surprise.

A worthy continuation of Forbidden West

Overall, Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores is a must-have for everyone who has tried and enjoyed Horizon Forbidden West. It finally unleashes the Burning Shore area. It introduces you to new landscapes, new characters, as well as new skills to help you navigate this area. It manages to condense the extended storyline, although it feels like it also accelerates the difficulty progression. Recommended.
