Hepburn: Takaishitai is a game where you hit download and pay whatever you want. It is very similar in style and theme to the earlier Silent Hill and Resident Evil 1-3 games, with a dash of TellTale games in there.

A horrific 90s theme

The game is set in the late 90s in the American suburbs. The look of dilapidation and wear and tear is everywhere, which is why it is reminiscent of Silent Hill games. The gameplay itself is similar to the early Resident Evil games, but the gore and the horror is a little more realistic and there isn't an arsenal of guns. Sound effects and sound editing are also better than the Resident Evil games.

Make your way around a horrific setting

Many of the rooms look like the sort of thing you would see in a drug den, from rusted shelves to blood-stained needles on the floor. The setting is the sort of place you would feel uncomfortable spending a lot of time, which only adds to the unease when the horrific events start to unfold.

Jump scares almost by accident

Many indie and free games rely on jump scares. They are often peppered around the levels so that people on YouTube do reaction videos about them. However, this game doesn't rely on jump scares.

Relies a lot on psychological horror

The game doesn't have the sort of shooting or melee combat that is seen in Silent Hill or Resident Evil. Much of the gameplay is about building dread, which is very similar to how the game Alien Isolation plays out. However, instead of being on a clean space station, you're in claustrophobic rooms and halls.
