Freelancers: Rogue Skies is a premium action game by developer ExodusIndie. It is a roguelike space sim adventure inspired by the classic Freelancers games. Players will get to pilot an advanced fighter spacecraft as they explore the galaxy against the backdrop of wars and conflicts happening throughout space. Freelancers: Rogue Skies is an open-world space adventure featuring roguelike mechanics. You’ll be piloting one of the ARC-700 starfighters and engaging in intense space dogfights that prioritize skill over gear. Choose your path, whether you’ll take part in a war between the UEG and Fringe Colonies or forge a new destiny for yourself. Explore multiple star systems that feel lived in, and where random events can happen at any time.

There‘s also permadeath in this game, but not in the usual sense. When respawning, you’ll assume the identity of a new pilot with a different background and story. As for the actual gameplay experience, the game needs a tutorial as it can be hard to figure things out at the start. Also, despite its claims, the in-game world feels rather empty and not very alive at all.

Barebones

Freelancers: Rogue Skies has an interesting concept that offers compelling space exploration and skill-based combat gameplay. In reality, though, it’s a sparse experience at best. That said, it has a solid foundation that it can build upon, which hopefully, is what will happen in future updates. See for yourself. Just don’t expect much for now.
