Eudora is a free strategy game for PC by an indie developer named Deerbell. It is described as a lo-fi real-time strategy game that takes inspiration from classic games from the MS-DOS era of computing. It started as a prototype game that first appeared during the DOS Games Jam event.

Similar to the DOS games of that time, such as the ever-popular Command and Conquer and Dune II, Eudora's core gameplay revolves around resource management, base-building, and the occasional real-time skirmishes. It also utilizes a retro art style for its graphics, which is also reminiscent of these classic games.

What is Eudora?

Eudora is a real-time strategy indie game whose gameplay mechanics and elements were inspired by classic MS-DOS games and features the same art style for its graphic design. On top of that, it's fully voiced and even has a soundtrack that was made using the OPL2 & OPM emulators for the popular Yamaha FM sound chips.

Eudora features 10 structures that you can construct for production in your base, including a power plant and your granary. Your defenses are handled by your typical large concrete barriers and gun turrets. Once you have your barracks and factory in place, you can start training infantry units and armored vehicles to help you battle enemies and while you explore the map.

Lastly, you can gain access to two unique technology which you can equip mid-game: a hospital and a hydroponic facility. Additionally, take control of a special weapon, the N2 missile, when you hack all computers and establish an uplink. Eudora pretty much gets everything right. One thing it could address in future updates would be the lack of a multiplayer mode.

An ode to the classic RTS games of yesteryears

Eudora tries to replicate the fun and memorable gameplay experience of its predecessors, and it does so with finesse and polish. The core mechanics are there, the art style is spot on, and the full voiceovers and soundtrack were a nice touch. This game is an instant recommendation to any RTS fan out there.
