Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - The Chapter of Markus is an expansion of the base game Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, a modern JRPG experience that explores a massive fantasy world teeming with life and story. This DLC shares the adventure of Markus, Carrie, and Nowa and their intriguing discovery — a portal called “Menhir’s Distortion.” 

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - The Chapter of Markus battles remain turn‑based, featuring the same action-point system and ability you’d expect from the base game, making the DLC very accessible if you’ve already played Hundred Heroes. 

What the gate holds 

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes - The Chapter of Markus doesn’t bring massive new systems; instead, it refines what’s already present. The core turn‑based combat, combo attacks, and ability management are intact.  However, there are no puzzles in this DLC, making this expansion more direct. Although this streamlined approach may appeal to players who prefer it, those expecting new mechanics might find it underwhelming. 

Story-wise, The Chapter of Markus promises to shed light on Markus’ past by sending the trio into a mysterious realm through a dimensional rift.  There is some interesting character work, especially with Markus and his connections to Diradhe and Salie, but the storytelling feels rushed and underdeveloped.  Key emotional beats are mentioned rather than deeply explored, leaving a sense of missed potential.  

The DLC maintains Hundred Heroes’ signature look with beautiful 2D sprite work over 3D backgrounds, detailed character portraits, and evocative scenery. RPGFan praises the “eye-catching” background art and sprite design.  The old castle and revenant enemies are suitably gothic, but some players noticed certain enemy graphics reused assets in a way that lessens their visual impact.  The soundtrack and voice acting also remain strong, while much of the music is recycled. 

A brief but familiar return to Markus’ journey 

Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes – The Chapter of Markus delivers a focused and accessible expansion that stays true to the core systems of the base game. Its refined turn-based combat and strong visual presentation offer familiar strengths, but the lack of new mechanics and a rushed narrative limit its emotional impact. While fans will appreciate the added character insight and polished aesthetics, others may find the DLC too brief and underwhelming overall.
