In Ecopunk, a group of survivors has banded together and call themselves “Ecopunks”. This newly-formed colony is your responsibility. The game features an in-depth building system. You can build shelters and homes, and design them with furniture, giving your people a proper home to live in. You’re also going to provide them with AC and insulation to keep the heat or cold at bay, as the climate is harsh in the wasteland.

Building isn’t the only thing you can do, but you can also get your hands busy with the game’s crafting mechanics. There are eight crafting professions that you can master to ensure your colony’s survival—be it cooking, tailoring, weapon-making—everything provides something to the table. For example, weapon-making can craft you some powerful arsenal to defend against the mutants roaming the wasteland.

Resources are not unlimited, and you’re going to have to forage in the world to restock supplies. If you’re craving for combat, you can raid enemy camps for their resources using the weapons you’ve crafted. Keep in mind that the combat mechanics feel somewhat underdeveloped and lack some finishing touches. Nonetheless, the core concept of the game is focused on survival and base-building, so the mediocre combat won’t really hamper your experience.

A perfect combination of management and survival elements

Overall, Ecopunk delivers a superb colony-management game. It has all the core mechanics of a survival game: base-building, crafting, and resource management. If you are looking for games that blend both management and survival-crafting in one, then this game definitely has all those. At this state, however, it still needs some minor improvements, specifically with its optimization and underwhelming combat system.
