The 8th game in the Dragon Quest series
DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince is a single-player role-playing game set in the world of Nadiria — a subterranean realm where monsters hold dominion. This game lets players embark on a quest for revenge, uncover unique monster combinations, and engage in strategic combat. Developed by Square Enix, it’s the new installment in the Dragon Quest franchise, available on PC and gaming console.
DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince is similar to popular games like Visions of Mana, Persona 5 Royal, Snowbreak: Containment Zone, and The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak, which gives players RPG experience with an accompanying narrative.
Create your own team of monsters
The plot of DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince centers on Psaro, who is cursed by his own father, the ruler of the monster realm of Nadiria, preventing him from harming any kind of monster. Here, you need to take on the role of Psaro as you embark on a journey to get revenge and to become a Monster Wrangler, someone who is skilled in recruiting and battling alongside monsters.
In this game, players must explore the various zones of Nadiria called “Circles.” Every circle has three areas, each with its own difficulty: Lower, Middle, and Upper Echelon. Throughout the game, the seasons and the landscape constantly shift through Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. As the season changes, it opens new areas and allows players to encounter different monsters specific to that season.
Central to success is the Synthesis System, which lets players combine two monsters to create stronger offspring. Each new fusion brings players closer to becoming the Master of Monsterkind. However, before unlocking this system, players must first build their reputation and hone their skills. You can discover over 500 monsters, including franchise classics, dark lords, and brand-new creatures. However, the game’s learning curve can be steep due to its monster-breeding mechanics.
Become the greatest monster wrangler
For players who are into RPG with monster creation elements, DRAGON QUEST MONSTERS: The Dark Prince is a must-try game. The gameplay revolves around capturing, breeding, and battling monsters in classic turn-based combat, akin to titles like Pokémon World Online or Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. The sheer variety of monsters is one of the game's strongest points, with hundreds of unique creatures to find and combine.
