Decadent is an action game. It’s a story-driven shooter that combines atmospheric exploration, horror elements, and action into an immersive experience. Players take on the role of John Lorn, a veteran of the Great War turned occultist, who embarks on a journey to save his lost son in the Arctic wilderness.  

Decadent delves into themes of human frailty, dark magic, and the sacrifices made for redemption, all while testing your combat and survival skills against supernatural threats. As John Lorn, you explore vast and foreboding environments, ranging from sunless forests and frozen tundras to eerie necropolises and alien fungi-filled caves.  

From soldier to occultist 

Decadent’s haunting atmosphere, influenced by Lovecraftian horror, creates a sense of dread as you uncover ancient secrets. Combat is visceral and requires strategic use of a variety of weapons, from 1920s firearms to occult artifacts and alien bio-weapons. Each weapon can be scavenged, customized, and upgraded, giving players options for how they approach each encounter. The game’s dynamic sanity system adds an extra layer of tension as well. 

Exploration is at the heart of the game, with players venturing into dangerous and unknown territories filled with strange enemies. The discovery of "Weirds" — anomalous pockets of space and time — offers both rewards and risks, as players can find powerful artifacts or face even greater dangers. The game’s progression system allows you to upgrade abilities and stats through the use of various artifacts.  

This adds depth and customization to the gameplay experience. However, the difficulty may be steep for casual players, sanity mechanics can feel overwhelming, the story progression can be slow at times, and there is limited replayability after completing the main story. Combat may feel repetitive in later stages as well, and some areas of exploration can feel empty or drawn out.
