Dear Esther: Landmark Edition is an adventure game developed by The Chinese Room. It is a walking simulator that takes place on a Scottish island in autumn. The game has very little interactivity, and there are no actions or puzzles to solve. The story is narrated by an unseen character who reads letters from his past as the player visits different locations on the island.

The game is not open-world, and the player must follow restricted pathways. However, to unlock all the achievements and find every audio clip, several walkthroughs may be required. The Landmark Edition has better graphics than the original version, minor interface improvements, and a system of achievements. Additionally, it includes the creators’ commentaries, which provide additional insight into their narrative intentions.
