Dead by Daylight is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game based on the PC game where one player takes on the role of the brutal Killer and another four play the Survivors. The Killer must use their powers and abilities to capture as many Survivors. He must prop them on the Hooks, so they can be sacrificed to the Entity. The Survivors’ only hope of escape is the exit gate. However, they need to repair the five generators to open them first. Unlike the Killer, Survivors do not have the skills to harm the Killer. They must come up with a strategy to repair the generators and head to the gates without being caught.

Whether you assume the role of Survivor or Killer, you can only choose from the cast of characters available in the game. Each character has a profile that display’s their name and three unique Perks. The Perks of a Dead by Daylight character is his combination of abilities that give him the advantage over other characters. Once all the players have selected their characters,  the game will begin. 

The overall objective of the Survivors is to defend themselves. While they do not have powers, Survivors can use a handful of items around them, such as chests, flashlights, toolboxes, keys, and maps. The most important of these are the map and toolbox as they are your means of opening the exit gates. Items in a chest can also give you an extra advantage as they can contain med-kits that can extend your life. 

Survivors must escape the Killer as his main task is to take down humans and place them on meathooks. All Killers in Dead by Daylight have an aura-reading ability that reveals the locations of the generators, hooks, and hex totems. This puts Survivors at a disadvantage as they can be detected without being visibly seen. Another obstacle that Survivors will face is the Endgame Collapse. Once a gate has been opened, all Survivors will have two minutes to escape. 

Straightforward horror game

Dead by Daylight is a suitable survival horror game for groups as it has a strong emphasis on teamwork. It also straightforward gameplay as there are no cutscenes or sidequests. This allows all players to focus on a single objective from beginning to end.
