Cosmula, created by the indie developer Simply Artizan for PC gaming, is a space shooter game that allows players to explore the wonders of the cosmos and engage in action-packed battles using a selection of spaceships, each with distinct looks, abilities, and stats. 

This 2D title is illustrated in old-school pixel graphics and inspired by the top-down shooter games of the past, evoking a sense of nostalgia for fans of the genre. It can be played in single-player gameplay but also features online multiplayer, offering team-based, co-op, and competitive gameplay. 

Dominate the cosmos 

In Cosmula, randomly generated environments are full of dangers in the form of asteroids and enemy factions. So, pick one of the six spaceships available, each possessing stats, primary and secondary weapons, and various abilities (utility, passive, and ultimate), to eliminate your foes from the cosmos and dominate this expanse. In addition, every space has its leveling system, allowing you to strengthen your spacecraft. 

Across this seemingly infinite expanse, energy charges are everywhere. Collect them to repair your spaceship, obtain a speed boost, take over enemy turrets to get them on your side, or use your spaceship’s ultimate. However, collecting these energy charges while fighting foes is not the only thing to be worried about. Anomalies, like temporal fields, electrical storms, and wormholes, are also to be looked out for. 

The game features three distinct modes: Deathmatch, where your goal is to eliminate as many enemies as possible; One Life, where survival is key as the zone shrinks and you must be the last one standing; and Zone Control, where you fight to dominate strategic points on the battlefield. Each of these is available whether you want to play solo or with friends. Unfortunately, this is localized only in English.

Cosmula offers an exciting blend of nostalgic 2D space shooter action with modern multiplayer features. With its unique spaceships, randomized environments, and various challenges like anomalies and energy charges, the game keeps players on their toes. Whether playing solo or with friends, Cosmula provides action-packed gameplay in multiple modes. Though currently only available in English, it’s a must-play for fans of classic top-down shooters and cosmic adventure.
