Short and not so sweet

Designed by a computer graphics student as part of a university project over 9 weeks, Contempt is a stripped-back horror game focusing on atmosphere and tension. Players enter a dark house armed with only a flash light, exploring a scene of neglect and destruction. While the game is certainly simplistic and relies on the mainstays of the genre, with little to no plot or real gameplay, an overall surprisingly high level of polish creates an atmospheric experience. Textures are impressive, the sound design is basic but effective and the house has a decent attention to detail. Contempt also has support for various VR systems, including emulators for smartphones. While the game is more a vehicle for graphics than plot or gameplay, the near complete lack of interesting interactions is still a large issue. A single play through will last for around ten minutes with little more to do in the game beyond walking and opening doors.
