City Island: Airport 2 is another addictive addition to the city-building game genre that could see you playing for hours – every day. It's the latest game from Sparkling Society, the developer behind City Island and the first version of City Island: Airport.

The destination of choice

The basic premise to City Island: Airport 2 is to make your airport a major transportation hub through building runways, accommodation, tourist attractions, cafes and restaurants and fuel and maintenance facilities. You have a number of challenges to complete, which range from upgrading your buildings to making sure your citizens are happy to completing a certain amount of flights. By completing these challenges you earn rewards in the form of dollars and diamonds, both of which can be used to make your airport even better.

You can also choose to speed up City Island: Airport 2 by 15, 20 or 30 minutes if you're getting impatient and want to move through the game more quickly.

Easy to gain rewards

There aren't very many prompts to help you start building the airport. The controls in City Island: Airport 2 aren't particularly complicated (especially if you've played any of the city-building games out there). It's just a case of searching for what you are looking for and then building it on a free piece of land or one click to collect your reward. That said, some more help on what you could be doing to speed up progress would be great.

It seems to be easier to progress in City Island: Airport 2 without any in-app purchases than many of these games, especially because you can fairly easily win rewards of both cash and diamonds. Although it feels like quite a lot of the features are locked until much higher levels.

City Island: Airport 2 does have a habit of freezing or being a bit sluggish, which probably explains why the game only works on Android 4.0 and up, as older devices may struggle. It's also quite a battery-intensive game.

2D graphics

The graphics in City Island: Airport 2 are a little basic (at least in the early stages) and grainy and they are 2D, not 3D. They are more reminiscent of early city builder games, such as Sim City, which may be the retro look the developer is aiming for.

Another good city-building game

City Island: Airport 2 is addictive in the way that many of the city-builder games are. You become invested in the success of your airport and can find yourself playing for a while, sending your planes out on journeys, upgrading your buildings and collecting money.

Does it add any new features or bring something new to the table? No, but City Island: Airport 2 still has enough to offer to appeal to fans of the genre.
