Compete in deadly racing events

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift is an action game developed by 34BigThings srl. It’s a combat-heavy racing title where players have to weaponize their vehicles using makeshift weapons and fight one another as they make their way to the finish line. Survival matters more than speed, and success depends on your brutality.

Roguelite elements are present in Carmageddon: Rogue Shift. Each campaign is randomly generated, offering different routes and varied objectives for you to do, resulting in a fresh experience in each playthrough. Permanent upgrades can be unlocked and carried over between runs, giving you something to work on and prolonging progression.

Crush your enemies to stay in the race

In Carmageddon: Rogue Shift, you are one of the countless racers set to participate in brutal race events made up of marauders, rejects, and lowlifes. Your objective is to survive these events by using a variety of weapons against your opponents, such as guns, explosives, and other deadly arsenal mounted on your vehicle. The difficulty increases dynamically as you conquer and win these events.

There are shops in the game that function as safe havens, where you can repair your car, change weapons, and install one of over 80 unlockable perks to tailor your build between races. There are 15 upgradeable vehicles, each with its own weight and suspension properties. Since roguelite elements are in play, dying doesn’t erase all progress, and you’ll still carry over what you unlocked in future campaigns.

The gameplay is perfectly suited for those looking for a high-octane, destructive racing title; however, the destruction physics feel underwhelming and could use more polishing to make it more impactful. Another important area that needs work is vehicle handling; the controls are too stiff, and turning around rough corners feels awkward and clunky. It could’ve been one of the best combat-racing simulators to date if these issues were addressed.

An action-packed, racing simulator

Overall, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift succeeds in delivering a chaotic, driving experience that both action and racing fans are going to enjoy. Its roguelite loop makes each campaign feel unique and less repetitive, and the permanent progress makes every run feel rewarding. Although the physics and vehicle handling can be disappointing, the fast-paced combat and extensive customization options more than make up for it.
