Cameo Mod expands a free RTS game by adding 110 Playable Factions and adding over 200 maps. Each map allows up to 16 players on 12 different terrains, and each has full multiplayer support. OpenRA is free and Cameo mod (version 27 or higher) is now free to all.

The OpenRA project modernizes classic Command & Conquer real-time strategy games. The Cameo mod also takes map/environment assets from C&C: Tiberian Sun and several units & building assets from Red Alert.

The OpenRA project is the reason why the C&C has survived as long as it has. Hundreds of developers are working to make a massive real-time strategy game as fun as possible. The Cameo mod builds upon their work by adding significantly more factions, maps and unit varieties.

Notalgia fodder for classic RTS fans

People who enjoy classic real-time strategy games and PC games are going to recognize a wide number of assets. There are recreations of assets from games like Warhammer, Dark Reign, Sim City, and many more.

Doing the legwork for other developers

Where other OpenRA developers have worked on the mechanics of the game, the Cameo developers have worked on map and unit variety, making sure to include OpenRA multiplayer in all new maps. It is a shame some assets are less sophisticated than others. For example, the assets from Worms still look 2D.

Perfectly balanced in the easiest way

How could a small number of developers somehow balance a game with over 110 playable factions? The answer is they divided the factions into the subset of factions that already existed and simply re-skinned the units and buildings with the most logical choices. Even going so far as to adjust things like missiles to resemble energy balls from futuristic factions.
