What it lacks in its ability to offer a compelling story, it more than makes up with casual and highly replayable gameplay.

You get to choose from one of five unique species: Gaian, Botica, Sistren, Manta, and Solanum. Each has a different aesthetic and unique strengths and weaknesses.

The expansive gameplay happens in a massive hex grid that takes up your entire screen, and more.  Combine this with a transparent user interface, and you get an immersive feel that gives you a feel of its scope. Its 4X elements will have you building structures and unlocking technology until you can expand and capture enemy territory. Also, the environment where the game is set presents its own challenges.

Still, the initial setback in Beyond comes in the form of its learning curve. It doesn’t provide anything in a convenient tutorial or tooltip section, leaving players to know more about the game by playing. Also, it lacks a solid single-player campaign that could’ve immersed players better in the game’s lore and story. Lastly, some players have reported intermittent cases of bugs such as the game freezing or crashing.
