Besotted revolves around three unique protagonists: Vinikus, a young man seeking answers about his past; Freya, a vengeful survivor driven by the desire to avenge her mother’s death; and Korlack, a dethroned king on a quest to reclaim his throne. Their intertwined fates drive the overarching narrative, unfolding through rich character development and emotional moments. 

2D-3D Art Style  

Besotted's turn-based combat system will feel familiar to fans of classic JRPGs. It’s straightforward but offers enough depth to keep battles engaging. The 2D-3D art style enhances the experience, mixing the charm of pixel art with the depth of 3D environments, creating a visually striking world. One of its standout features is its puzzle-solving mechanics, reminiscent of older RPGs where players had to take notes and carefully track clues.  

Thankfully, the game streamlines this process using a smartphone-style notepad, making the experience more convenient while preserving the sense of immersion. In addition to its core gameplay, it offers a wealth of side activities—arena battles, treasure hunts, and even acquiring property in villages. Including a heartwarming subplot involving a cat adds a touch of charm, providing a nice break from the main adventure. 

However, while this game offers a nostalgic trip for JRPG fans, its pacing can feel slow at times, especially during longer dialogue sequences and exploration segments. Some find the turn-based combat too familiar or simplistic compared to more modern RPGs. Additionally, the puzzle-solving mechanics, though nostalgic, can be a bit tedious for players who prefer a more streamlined experience without needing to keep track of numerous clues and notes.

Still, it’s a worthwhile adventure for retro RPG enthusiasts.
