First-person indie horror game
Araignees is a first-person horror adventure game from indie developer wannaodin. It stars an industrial worker plunged into a nightmare-like experience after being bitten by a small spider. To survive, he must solve the puzzles and escape the mazes.
Araignees is a game inspired by the PS1 era. With this, expect an aesthetic with an art texture of mixed 2D and 3D graphics. However, while it may seem promising initially, the game is riddled with issues that players will find frustrating. The puzzles are too hard to understand. Making it worse are the mechanics and physics that are too gawky.
What can you expect from Araignees?
Araignees takes you to a PS1-designed map filled with spiders of various sizes. As mentioned, your goal is to stay awake through the nightmare to understand what is happening. To do so, you will have to solve the puzzles and the mazes laid before you. That will be difficult as the spiders are after you. With this, you always have to be alert.
The game has a linear storyline, with players needing to solve the puzzle before moving on to the next area. However, the mechanics aren't that clear, and most of the puzzles do not make sense. Moreover, items you need are often impossible to grab without doing some sort of acrobatic moves. With this, expect to be stuck on a puzzle for a while.
Players will also find that the difficulty curve is a bit lopsided, with earlier levels being more challenging than the rest. The game also does not have a map for you to consult as you wander through various areas. You need to either have a great memory or a piece of paper to note down the places you already explored in your last dream.
Is the game good?
All in all, Araignees is a game you can play if you love running, spiders, and puzzles. It has a very disturbing and creepy atmosphere, typical of horror games. However, the mechanics are not quite clear. The puzzles are also difficult to understand, and solving them is tedious. It also doesn't help that the controls are janky and the physics are gawky.
