Anno 1602 is an interesting real-time strategy game that will take you back in time. Starting from a small colony, you will get to experience how it is like to build cities and expand your territory until you are a thriving force in the 17th and 18th century.

On to the New World

While the game has historical themes, the gameplay does not strictly conform to real-life events in history. Still, Anno 1602 is greatly inspired by humanity’s Age of Exploration and Discovery. The game begins with you and a few but enough materials that will help you in building a small colony on your newly discovered island. From here, you must start constructing establishments that can house your people and get you started with a booming economy. These buildings will also be essential in making sure your people are well fed and taken care of. For instance, fishing huts are one of the best food sources you can provide for your colony. At the start, you will have to be patient and stick to constructing buildings that can provide the basic necessities. As you expand your territory, you will be able to build more helpful establishments that will help your colony’s growth like schools, plantations, churches, and even theaters! The game’s main objective is for you to be a large and thriving colony. 

Strategizing is important in this game so you are able to balance your priorities when it comes to setting up new institutions. Of course, things will not be as smooth-sailing as you think it would be. Anno 1602 is not just about building and expanding your territory but as well as defending it from pirates and other neighbor colonies who would threaten to take over yours. There are various game modes you can try in this game: Continuous Play, Individual Scenarios, and lastly the Multiplayer mode. Continuous Play simply lets players enjoy the game for an unlimited amount of time until they eventually tire of it. Individual Scenarios are more challenging as it scenario represents a goal that you need to meet. For instance, one of your target goals in this mode is being able to produce and hit a specific number of civilians in your colony.
