Among the Sleep is ultimately a first-person exploration game. Taking control of a toddler who can crawl or briefly walk around his environment the player is also accompanied by a friendly talking teddy bear. When the surreal settings become darker hugging teddy can light the way for a short period of time. Throughout the adventure the player is pursued by two unknown characters - a creepy lullaby-singing lady and a shadowy figure wearing a trenchcoat. There is no way to beat these enemies the aim is to simply survive and find the way home to the toddler's troubled mother.

The story is troubling and heartbreaking and while playing the part of a two-year-old it really does feel like the only light in the world comes from Teddy.
