The King of Fighters '94 is the first entry in the long-running King of Fighters series of fighting games. It was released for the Neo Geo arcade platform in 1994 by SNK, and features characters from popular SNK fighting game franchises Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting, as well as new characters. Unlike most other fighting games of the time, The King of Fighters '94 has players take control of a three-character team.

An innovative fighting game

The King of Fighters '94 has elements in common with other fighting games of the 1990s, but its key innovation is the three-character team system. There are eight teams, for a total of 24 characters, a significantly larger roster than most games of the era. Choosing character order creates an additional level of strategy. The game uses a four-button control scheme similar to some other SNK fighters and features a comeback mechanic in the form of a meter that charges until the character is ready to perform a powerful Super Move.
