In the fall of 2016, the National Portrait Gallery in London unveiled an exhibition that captures the spirit of America in its artists. Titled "A Little Life," the show was organized by the photographer Alexei Hay, who has been documenting life in America for more than 30 years. The exhibition consists of 35 portraits by Hay, and each one tells a unique story about a family that has survived the challenges of the past decades.

In the show, Hay focuses on four families that have remained in America. In the first portrait, we see the parents of the four main characters.
