Yoruba mythology, also called Yoruba religion, is the most ancient religion in the world, existing for more than 3,000 years. In Africa, it was the first religion, and in America it was the first and most widely practiced religion. It is a syncretic belief that includes both Yoruba gods and Orisha. Today, it is a mix of Catholicism, African traditional religions, and the Christian faith.

The word Yoruba means “men of the forest,” and the tribe was first located in the land that now is Ghana. It is from their myths that the other African tribes and the American Indians derived their origin stories.
