A step forward graphically in WWE 2K

WWE 2K18 is another addition to the WWE 2K franchise. This time, this action wrestling game aims to bring a new level of realism to wrestling games with enhanced visuals, an expanded roster, and new gameplay mechanics. Developed by Yuke’s and Visual Concepts, this installment introduced an improved graphics engine, a revamped MyCareer mode, and the return of the fan-favorite 8-man matches

WWE 2K18 uses a new graphics engine which makes the game’s visuals fundamentally better than previous titles, but its core gameplay remains the same with a few additions and overhauls in systems to make it more enjoyable.

Improved graphics and expanded roster

WWE 2K18’s standout features are the visual overhaul. Character models are more detailed, lighting is improved, and animations feel smoother than in previous entries. The game also boasts a large roster, with over 170 playable superstars, including legends, NXT stars, and current roster members. The attention to detail in entrances and move sets adds to the authenticity, making each match feel like a real WWE event

The MyCareer mode received a significant overhaul, allowing players to explore backstage areas, interact with other wrestlers, and engage in branching storylines. However, despite its ambition, the mode suffered from repetitive objectives, lifeless dialogue, and long loading times. The Road to Glory mode, which let players compete online in daily challenges, added a competitive edge, but network issues and inconsistent matchmaking hindered its potential.

While it improved upon past mechanics, it was still plagued by slow, sometimes clunky gameplay. The new carry system, which let players lift and move opponents more freely, was a welcome addition, but collision detection issues and unresponsive controls often led to frustrating moments. Additionally, the game suffered from frequent glitches, ranging from minor animation bugs to major crashes, affecting the overall experience.

A visually impressive but flawed experience

WWE 2K18 brought much-needed graphical improvements and an expanded roster, making it one of the most visually striking entries in the series. While additions like the revamped MyCareer mode and new mechanics added depth, the game suffered from sluggish gameplay, frustrating glitches, and repetitive objectives. Despite these drawbacks, it remains an enjoyable experience for wrestling fans, but not without its flaws.
