Generally, the Wrath of the Norsemen Mod focuses on the Viking Age, a time when Norse tribes were rampant around Europe. As such, it features more than a dozen custom factions from the different Viking tribes to the kingdoms already in existence at the time such as the Rus, the Slavs, the Frankish Empire, and more. These factions set the tone and the focus of the entire mod experience.

In terms of gameplay, it draws AI behavior and strategies from other mods. This approach creates a varied AI opponent behavior, from strategic and diplomatic to brash and aggressive. There are just a few glitches, most especially with the animation for custom weapons. Ax swings and javelin throws are some of the affected game assets. Still, these are rather minor inconveniences as the game in general remains balanced.

For historical accuracy, you can expect enough work put into the project. Each of the custom factions starts with their historical settlements and regions as you start the mod. This covers new maps that include Scandinavia and the Baltic Regions. There are also sections of Western Europe and the Russian Steppes, mostly populated by the tribes and represented by rebels in-game.
