World of Dragon Nest is a free-to-play MMORPG mobile game that brings back the epic saga of the hit Korean online role-playing game, Dragon Nest. Developed by Eyedentity Games and published by Nexon Thailand, World of Dragon Nest is the massive open-world version of the original Dragon Nest. This time, the original story veers off into an all-new path: instead of betraying his friends, the legendary Dark Knight Velskud hands over the Black Dragon Gem, changing the course of history in this new timeline. 

The day of destiny comes

Dragon Nest is a free-to-play action-filled fantasy MMORPG originally developed by Eyedentity for PC. This online game is beloved for its immersive and fast-paced non-targeting combat system that allows players to win PvP matches by their skill of play alone. Additionally, Dragon Nest has a rich lore that can be explored through different eyes of the character classes you can choose. 

Due to its popularity, it garnered several sequels and spin-offs for various platforms—the most notable being Dragon Nest M, the mobile version of the game. Dragon Nest games are known for utilizing the concept of alternate timelines, allowing new story content. In World of Dragon Nest or WoD, this is once again used to create a whole new adventure for both new and old players coming back. 

Best of both worlds

The much-loved skill system has now been revamped. WoD completely overhauls the advanced job classes, allowing you to use skills that the original game would have locked you out of. For example, whereas the Sorceress class has two advanced branches you have to choose from—Elemental magic and Force magic—now you can use a bit of both with the Swap Weapon system. 

It comes at a price, though. There’s a bit of a cooldown timer when switching, so you have to play your cards right in the heat of battle. However, this just further enables you to be versatile against all types of enemies. There are now also Chain Skills that let you seamlessly string combos.

Be whoever you want to be

The biggest change in this Dragon Nest title is the implementation of the long-awaited open-world exploration feature.  The original Dragon Nest is dungeon-based, so you’ll be mostly alone in entering the instance dungeons unless you join other players and create a party. However, WoD now does away with that and fully lets you encounter enemies outside of town while other non-party players are around. 

Another major change is that character classes are no longer gender-locked. WoD brings back the four original classes: Warrior, Archer, Cleric, and Sorceress. However, you don’t have to settle for a male Warrior or a female Archer anymore—you can choose whatever gender you want this time. Additionally, WoD further focuses on fun life activities: you can now fish, farm, mine, cook, raise pets, and even relax at a spa if you don’t want to go adventuring.

Same old game, new adventure

All in all, this is a title worth trying out, whether you’re an old player or not. The addictive combat system is still great, and classic PvP modes, such as 4-vs-4, and 8-vs-8, return to let you showcase your skills. Plus, a new never-before-seen class, called the Slayer, is also available at the start. More, an epic 200-player PvP mode called Siege War has been added to the Colosseum roster. The only downside to the game is its expected lag because of the open-world map. But other than that, World of Dragon Nest is a DN must-try.
