Website Color Coding: Easily Identify Your Working Environment

Website Color Coding is a free Chrome extension developed by MPaans that helps users identify the environment they are working in. This useful tool adds basic HTML elements to your loaded page, making it easy to differentiate between different working environments.

The extension detects environments in two ways. Firstly, it uses regular expressions to match domain names, so any site starting with "test." will display a blue border at the top and a message at the bottom right indicating that it is a test environment. The matching can be customized through the options page.

Secondly, you can manually assign a domain to a specific environment by selecting it from the extension's popup menu, accessed by clicking its icon in the browser. This allows you to easily identify your working environment for any website.

Website Color Coding offers various options to modify the visual feedback of the environment. Colorbars can be set on each direction of the page, and the message indicating the environment can be positioned in any corner or border, with the option to rotate it if desired.

Additionally, the extension provides a useful feature by warning you if the domain (hostname) is changed for a site detected as being in one of your assigned environments. This helps prevent accidentally navigating to the wrong site during development.
