Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters is a turn-based strategy game that is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, along with games like Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, and Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade.

This tactical RPG lets the player take control of the Grey Knights—an elite unit from the humanity faction. The game is described as fast-paced and takes place in a gothic science fiction setting that contains both fantasy and science fiction elements. In addition to combat, players work to upgrade their base of operations.

Turn-based combat

The game features turn-based strategic combat, where the player must carefully choose units and maneuver them to effectively defeat enemies in a range of settings. Players must learn to use the appropriate units at the right time while also working to upgrade those units. Combat can take place both up close and at range.

Base upgrades

Another aspect of this Warhammer 40K title involves upgrading the player’s base of operations by building new facilities. This allows the player to conduct research, which in turn leads to additional discoveries in the game. The state of the player’s base of operation has a direct impact on their effectiveness in battle, so it is a necessary part of the gameplay.

Join the Execution Force

Players of Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters are in for the treat with the Execution Force DLC. This downloadable content adds four new Assassin units to help you in your missions, taken from the elusive yet lethal Officio Assassinorum. Beyond your first Assassin, courtesy of the Assassins’ Office, you can unlock four more specialists:

• Vindicare: A long-range sniper focused on critical hits from a distance.
• Eversor: The berserker-type unit that sacrifices health for buffs, and stacks Bleed on enemies.
• Callidus: A stealthy scout that can move in the middle of mobs without getting detected.
• Culexus: Disables enemy boons and psyker abilities. She also has the ability to cut your Warp Surge meter and close Portals.

Additionally, the DLC comes with a couple of new mission types. Some of them include Hive Missions that corrupt planets and contribute to Morbus levels when left unattended, somehow similar to the Warframe Lich System. New interactions are also available for players who encounter a Deathguard Vessel on their travels. Lastly, getting the DLC lets you receive a couple of Tier 1 items from Grandmaster Kai. 

Retcon introduces female custodes

The recent lore drop in the Warhammer 40,000 universe features the first female Adeptus Custodes, which until now are all male. In the 10th edition of the Codex: Adeptus Custodes, the elite force of gene-edited warriors now includes female recruits, contrary to the long-held tradition that sons of aristocratic families make up the formidable faction. While retcons are a regular thing in this franchise, the addition of woman guardians has caused a stir among fans. Some celebrated the increased representation, while others attacked the inconsistency of the lore.

A nice addition for Warhammer fans

The developers have made an effort to make this game accessible to new players, but people who are not familiar with Warhammer 40,000 may still find the game world intimidating. That being said, previous knowledge of the Warhammer world is not necessary. Additionally, the long-established history of the Warhammer universe allows this game’s story to be very fleshed out.
