Sequel to the popular Wargroove game
Wargroove 2 is a premium strategy game coming from developer Chucklefish. It is the latest entry to the popular tactical RPG, Wargroove. Picking up where the story left off, a new faction has risen looking to take control of the land, and players will thrust forth to stop this new threat.
Compared to the first Wargroove game, Wargroove 2 builds upon its predecessor in a couple of key ways, with the first being a whole new story that will unfold across multiple chapters. It also comes with an improved skill system first introduced in the original.
A new adventure
It has been three years since Queen Mercia defeated the ancient foes to restore peace in Aurania from the first Wargroove game. Now, a foreign faction, known as the Faahri Republic, has risen with access to forbidden technology that could cause calamity in the land once again. Lead a new roster of Commanders to battlefields across the land, sea, and sky in order to stop this from happening.
Wargroove 2 has three new campaigns with an overarching narrative to tie them together. Wage war against the opposing Commanders and utilize the new Groove System to deal devastating special attacks on enemies. There's also a new single-player mode called Conquest featuring roguelike elements. Here, you'll pick a Commander and engage in skirmishes where every decision is permanent and your gold and health carry over.
Explore the game's built-in editor that lets you create your own maps and scenarios to enjoy and share with the community online. You also do four-player co-op or versus battles with other players. There are some things that fared less than the original, though. First, the multiplayer map options have been reduced quite a bit and second, there's no co-op campaign, arcade mode, or puzzles anymore.
Some better, some worse
All in all, Wargroove 2 is a decent sequel that builds upon the original's story and gameplay with its new narrative and improved Groove System, respectively. You do lose a few game modes from the first game and the multiplayer experience still needs some work. Aside from those, it's still worth checking out for new players and returning fans alike.
