WaldExpert is a mobile information system designed for owners of small and privately-owned forests in Baden-Württemberg. Developed by the Ministerium fuer Ernaehrung Laendlichen Raum und Verbraucherschutz (MLR) in collaboration with the Forstliche Versuchs- und Forschungsanstalt Baden-Württemberg (FVA), this app aims to bridge the gap between forest owners and advisors.

With WaldExpert, forest owners can easily search for their own forest using plot numbers or geographic locations. The app provides a map view of the plot or area, allowing users to easily visualize their forest. Notably, the app supports offline storage of forest data, ensuring access to information even in areas with limited connectivity. Additionally, WaldExpert offers navigation capabilities, enabling users to navigate to their forest using a navigation app.

The app provides valuable information about the forest, including estimated area size, wood volume, CO2 storage, forest functions, and protected areas. Forest owners can also find information on funding opportunities for the conservation of valuable habitats. Moreover, WaldExpert offers contact details for the relevant forestry organization, facilitating communication and support.

WaldExpert goes beyond basic forest information by offering additional features such as displaying emergency meeting points in the forest, vulnerability assessments of current forest stands based on climate impact research, and climatic reference maps. The app also includes a WaldWiki, providing explanations on various topics related to forests.

As a research project under the sustainability theme of the Digitalization Strategy Baden-Württemberg, WaldExpert is a valuable tool for forest owners in accessing crucial information and connecting with experts. This free app is a testament to the commitment of MLR and FVA in promoting sustainable forest management.
